CrossOver hides the clunky interface of the open-source Wine software behind a more Mac-like interface. CrossOver is an ingenious idea for a program that can save time and costs less than buying a. I find that at least some of the GOG games are running in DOSBox under CrossOver, and in those cases, it might make more sense to run the Mac version of DOSBox, but for early - to fairly-recent Windows games that haven't been ported on Steam, CrossOver beats having to fire up VMware or Parallels.
Unlike the other two options, Crossover doesn't need a full copy of Windows or the expensive licence that goes with it. It employs intricate emulators of all of Windows' key functions to run apps completely independently of Microsoft's operating system.
